Program Focus. Cincinnati Public Schools has spent over millions of dollars on technology hardware, software, and infrastructure in its K-12 schools. The 2005-06 State School Technology Surveys (BETA) indicated that, despite the physical presence of technology in classrooms, teachers continue to lack the necessary skills to integrate technology into their instruction. The surveys also indicated that one of the primary obstacles to technology integration is a lack of time. The Technologist in Residence program is designed to address time constraints by bringing an technology integration expert to work directly with the teachers in their own environment and with their own equipment.
The Tech in Residence program is designed to motivate, inspire, and lend confidence to teachers who may be reluctant to embrace technology integration and to teachers who are eager to move ahead in applying their integration skills. The program is flexible and informal in nature in an effort to support and assist teachers in a non-pressured manner, for the purpose of meeting the school’s individual technology training needs. The program looks different at each implementation site.
