A Sample of CPS Internet Traffic (Volume): ITS is dedicated to providing fast, reliable Internet connectivity to all CPS schools and departments. We use a variety of tools to monitor network performance and alert us to any problems that may arise. Here is a sample from one of our monitoring tools. These graphs may provide some insight into the volume of Internet usage in the Cincinnati Public School system.
Here is a graph of Internet usage in a typical day
at Cincinnati Public Schools:
The trend over time is for usage to increase. By the end of the 2001-2002 school year, CPS was saturating the full 13 MB/sec then available. Over the summer (2002) ITS upgraded the CPS Internet connection to 20 MB/sec. This 20 MB/sec is comprised of two 10 MB/sec connections through two different Internet service providers. This not only provides more bandwidth. It provides redundancy. If one connection should fail, all Internet traffic would traverse the remaining connection. ITS is taking measures to ensure that CPS uses it's Internet bandwidth more efficiently. This requires close monitoring and control of applications and services crossing the CPS networks as well as caching of Internet content wherever possible. |
