Proper Use of your CPS email account
All Staff,

Recently an abundance of Personal Internet Email Subscriptions, Chain Letter Messages, a variety of Virus Alert Messages, and "Please Read Immediately" Messages, have gone through our email system.

Going to Internet sites and subscribing to the site to receive email updates for personal use is not an acceptable use of the CPS email system.  (e.g.  daily jokes, daily trivia, daily horoscopes, sweepstakes entries, vacation information, etc.)  If you have subscribed to any Internet site for something other than work-related content, you need to unsubscribe yourself immediately.

Please remember -  chain letters are not an acceptable use of email.   These letters often come from outside sources which increase the risk of email based virus infection.   These emails multiply exponentially, costing the district.

Also, there have been a variety of virus alert messages passing through the system.  These emails are usually chain letters.  When you receive an email telling you about a virus and asking you to "send it to everyone you know"  do not forward it.  The best thing to do with email received regarding computer viruses from anyone other than our ITS department personnel is to delete them.  Most are hoaxes and serve only to waste time and resources (which may be their intended purpose).  The ITS department monitors the computer virus situation very carefully and will take action as needed.

Email should only be used for work related issues and not for personal business.  This includes overusing Internet email to communicate with friends and family.

Following the guidelines above will insure that our e-mail and internet capabilities are not compromised.

Thank you all in advance for your cooperation.
